NOS EUA: National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day - September 27

National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NGMHAAD) is observed each year on September 27 to direct attention to the continuing and disproportionate impact of HIV and AIDS on gay and bisexual men in the United States.

1. Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) represent 56% of people living with HIV.

2. Gay and bisexual men account for more than half of the 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States and two-thirds of all new diagnoses each year. If trends continue, 1 in 6 gay and bisexual men will be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime, including 1 in 2 black gay and bisexual men, 1 in 4 Latino gay and bisexual men, and 1 in 11 white gay and bisexual men.

3. Among all gay and bisexual men who received an HIV diagnosis in the United States in 2015, African Americans accounted for the highest number (10,315; 39%), followed by whites (7,570; 29%) and Hispanics/Latinos.
